THE ENGAGEMENT
Christmas time in Stradbroke island is a sight to see, with white beaches, crashing waves and sun for days. We had decided to go for a trip and poor Katie was stuck in bed with food poisoning for two days beforehand.
It all turned out okay as when Katie was feeling well enough to go for a walk we went and wandered the Gorge walk. When we reached the cliff edge Tom dropped to his knee and asked me to marry him.
the details
Location
We chose Gold Coast Farm House as we love the idea of being secluded from the world around us and being able to escape to a small slice of relaxing paradise. The ability to have a completely DIY wedding really appealed to us as it gave us the ability to plan our wedding exactly how we wanted.
When we arrived on our viewing day we knew this was the place to be, with beautiful and well-manicured lawns that spread as far as the eye could see. Ensuring there was plenty of room for all our friends and family
vendors
We wanted our ceremony to be both personal and entertaining, so we were married by Jake Newell from Janda Events who blew us away with his professional approach to the ceremony.
We treated our guests to delicious nibbles from Charcuterie Co and tasty beverages provided by Mr Consistent. This kept our guests happy and well-fed, giving them plenty of energy to party the night away to music by Janda Events.
Our dream wedding was captured by none other than the talented Renee Greene Creative, she knew exactly how to direct us and lead us to getting some beautiful shots.
We hosted a stunning cocktail-style dinner beneath the clear top Marquee from Pavilion Marquees, decorated with twinkling fairy lights and giving us views of the starry sky above.
music
Music is a big part of our lives so we wanted to make sure we picked the perfect songs to play during key moments of our wedding. We picked the enchanting Bloom by The Paper Kites to have Katie walk down the aisle to, which set the tone for our ceremony perfectly.
Our first dance was to ‘All Your Love’ by Flight Facilities, which is a song that both of us have loved and we found really encapsulated our relationship.
the look
Katie wore a show-stopping dress from Ella Moda bridal which tied into our modern garden party theme with ease. The A-line cut decorated with sheer embroidered lace panels and a subtle V neck was brilliantly finished with short sleeves and a long veil.
Keeping with the neutral theme Tom donned a sophisticated cream suit from Norfords complete with brown loafers.
Bridesmaids and groomsmen accented the bride and grooms looks in their satin gold dresses and matching cream suits.
Accessories were a key part of the wedding party look, with white roses used as bouquets and bouteneers and sunglasses making a statement in many shots.
highlights
There were so many highlights to our day but a few key moments do stand out.
Our ceremony was second to none, being able to share our own vows and include all of our friends and family in such a special moment was something that we will treasure forever.
Our bridal portraits were so much fun. We had an absolute blast getting photos with the bridal party. We went a bit wild with the champagne and just had the best time laughing and enjoying the sunset with our friends.
We also loved hosting a recovery day with all of our friends and family the day after, it gave us a great opportunity to have more in-depth conversations with people and really reminisce on the wedding.
Advice
Advice can be tricky to give to a couple planning their wedding, especially when everyone is so different. We would say to relax and really enjoy the process of planning your wedding. It goes by so fast and before you know it, it’s your wedding day.
We would recommend to every couple to have a recovery day the next day with a small group of friends and family, so you can spend more quality time with each and every one of them.
