Haydyn + Emily | Written in the Stars

Not that long ago, in a galaxy not far from here, Haydyn and Emily said their vows beneath the old tallow-wood tree. These star-crossed lovers were married on the 4th of May- also known as Star Wars day.

Staying true to the theme the duo dressed as lovers Anakin and Padme, with bride Emily in an inspired Grace Loves Lace gown. Her hair elegantly tied in a half up half down do, secured with a baby’s breath headband by Luxx Loxx. While groom, Haydyn, donned his best Jedi attire, complete with lightsaber and robe.

The bridal bouquets were made of simple white dried flowers, for a rustic yet elegant feel. Perfectly complementing the bridesmaid’s blue and champagne dresses. This Star Wars-themed event was the perfect representation of the couple’s love and adoration for both each other and for the stories that brought them together.

Burgers from the Notorious Eat were shared amongst friends beneath the tipis, decorated with festoon lights, star wars memorabilia and an epic photo booth for all to enjoy. Guests enjoyed a night filled with love, laughter and Star Wars references.

Our Story

Your Engagement

After being together since 2013, we decided to take a trip to Japan to celebrate our anniversary and explore all the country had to offer. We had just spent the day at Tokoyo Disney and decided to watch the parade. It was after the parade when Haydyn had asked Emily for her hand in marriage.

The Details

Location

We knew we always wanted somewhere that allowed us a blank slate to decorate as we desired. Location was important to us as we wanted somewhere that was close to the Gold Coast, but not amongst the busy city streets. Gold Coast Farm House was perfect for us as we loved how beautiful and peaceful it was whilst being removed from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast.

Vendors

We had an exceptional celebrant Julia Kathage at Creative Love Ceremonies who got right into our Star Wars theme, also wearing a Jedi robe for our ceremony, she excellently crafted a ceremony that captured both of our spirits. With the talented White Parrot Photography on the tools, we knew our wedding would be captured in the most stunning detail, with their elegant and clean photography style.

The food and drinks kept flowing with the help of Little Rum Runner and delicious catering by Notorious EATS.

Music

Couple have Jedi lightsaber duel as their first dance

We were thankful our DJ- GC DJ and Entertainment who were more than happy to accommodate our requests for classic Bruce Springsteen and tracks from our favourite Star Wars movies. Emily walked down the aisle to ‘Across the Stars’ from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of The Clones. Later we celebrated our first dance as a married couple to ‘She’s the One’ by Bruce Springsteen and ‘Duel of The Fates’ from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Our first dance evolved into a lightsaber duel, which had all of our guests watching on in awe! It was so much fun, that our groomsmen and bridesmaids even joined in.

Highlights

The ceremony was one of our main highlights, Haydyn says seeing Emily walking down the aisle as his tears welled made it all set in, that this was the first moment of the rest of his life with Emily as his wife.

Of course, the first dance into a lightsaber duel was a highlight, this perfectly illustrated the theme and allowed the couple to express their love for Star Wars and each other simultaneously.

Advice

We would recommend for future couples to take a private moment to decompress and enjoy each other’s company for the first time as a married couple before the rest of the occasion begins.

When planning don’t lose sight of what the day is about- both of you- so don’t get lost in trying to please others, instead, do what you love.
