THE ENGAGEMENT
Julia and Kalista have always been one’s with a shine to nature, glamping and getting away. But when Kalista booked a special glamping getaway in Springbrook Julia became suspicious.
Kalista had organised a romantic dinner for just the two of them down by the creek. The path down lit with lanterns, Kalista saw this as the perfect spot to get down on one knee and ask Julia to marry her.
Apparently, a beautiful romantic speech was said, though neither of the two could remember it. Regardless, Julia cried and said yes.
the details
Location
We were surprised when the first venue we visited ticked all our boxes. We were simply in awe of the beauty of the property, but there were a few more bonuses thrown in.
Firstly, it was important that our dog was with us on the day, Gold Coast Farm House was one of the few venues that allowed dogs to remain all day off leash.
We also loved that all the furniture was on site and able to be set up for us exactly as we wanted. We didn’t have to follow any specific plan or mould.
vendors
One massive highlight of our wedding was having a group of amazing vendors come together to make our vision come to life. We had it all from stunning flowers, to delicious food and great talented people.
We know how important food at a wedding is, and how it can make and break your day. This is why we chose the talented Gareth Keenan Catering to perfect our delicious menu.
We also couldn’t fault our warm and welcoming celebrant Lisa Laker Marriage Maker, she wrote a beautiful ceremony that captured our relationship perfectly.
When it came to choosing a photographer, we couldn’t go past Aleisha Edwards. Her clean and crisp style and keen eye was perfect for capturing every second of our wedding.
We loved how comfortable she made us feel during our wedding portraits and knew exactly what to say to prompt genuine smiles.
music
Music was a big part of our day, with the talented Zane Blumeris playing the guitar during our ceremony and later switching onto some curated Spotify playlists.
We walked down the aisle to Blessings by Hollow Cove and then celebrated our marriage with a fun choreographed first dance to Just the Two Of Us by Grover Washington Jr.
the look
We worked hard to create a cohesive wedding look that made us both look like brides, but also stay true to our original styles. Thankfully we found styles we loved at The Bridal Company and Wil Valour.
Julia opted for a whimsical fairy tale style dress with sparkles and lace detailing. Her hair pulled back into a whimsical loose braid, finished with babies breath.
Kalista opted for a chic pant suit with a lace bustier and tailored white pants. She accents this look with a white caped blazer that sweeps behind her like a train.
highlights
We loved so many parts of our wedding that it was almost impossible to choose.
We had our guests make a sparkler arch for our grand reception entrance. It was magical seeing all of our friends and family gathered to celebrate our love.
A moment we will never forget is when our dog (who was supposed to be our ring bearer) completely missed the aisle and ran the long way around our guests to come and find us at the front.
Kalista’s favourite part was the first look, she remembers standing there holding back tears while waiting with anticipation to see Julia. The joy was overwhelming and seeing her immediately calmed my nerves.
Julia’s favourite part was the first dance – she’ll always remember everyone gathered around the dance floor with huge smiles on their face. Surprising everyone with a choreographed dance routine made the moment all the better.
Advice
If we had one piece of advice to give it would be to carefully plan out your ceremony times in accordance with the sunset time.
We had our ceremony at 3 pm in March- in hindsight a 1 pm or 2 pm ceremony would have been better to allow us more time to enjoy the rest of the day and to spend more time partying at our reception.
We also recommend that couples should take little breather moments during the day, to check in with each other and enjoy little moments of quiet together.
